Our made-for-us adjustable Martingale Collars
WHY CUSTOM?
After years of searching and trying different martingales it became clear that we have a large breed that, unlike Mastiffs, Boxers, Bull Dogs and the like, does not have a particularly large neck, yet we preferred a wider collar. The only options were Martingales with a heavy, clunky chain that were generally too big for most of our GSDs, or a narrow collar that did fit but was not wide & comfortable enough for a strong breed.
They cost us a few dollars more for the special order but now, except for very small GSDs *
our one-size collars will fit 98% of German Shepherds.

specifications & fitting a Martingale collar
*Measurements noted are for the webbing only, it does not include the chain.
Chain adds 3 to 4 inches. This Chain Martingale has an added feature of a quick release buckle. When the collar is properly adjusted, the dog's handler can easily remove by releasing the buckle.
The concept of a chain martingale collar is that it will provide a limited amount of choke to a pre-determined circumference, applied equally around the neck as opposed to a traditional choke chain which has no stopping mechanism and will choke indefinitely.
It is IMPORTANT that a Martingale collar be fitted properly; it should be snug on the neck directly behind the ears, with no excess chain hanging loose. To fit a Chain Martingale the chain element of the collar is designed to be relaxed until pulled to the desired choke amount. It is important that the collar be adjusted so that when the chain is pulled by the leash from the center ring an adequate amount of squeeze will be administered. This will provide a firm yet humane correction.
