This youngster popped up on our radar in mid February. Coming in as a stray, she was listed as a "husky" by the shelter, we're pretty sure that's why she wasn't snatched up the second she became available. But we were not seeing a husky and asked for additional photos:

We recognized her immediately as a coated white GSD and enlisted the help of our Facebook friend, Kathy J, to help us get her out and to safety. Unfortunately, it was already the holiday (Presidents Day) weekend, and we were dealing with shelter closings.

A pull request was sent in over the weekend, but when the shelter opened on Tuesday, they had NO RECORD of rescue interest. So round and round trying to get information and get hold of people and frustration and worry. Another pull request email was sent, which finally got through (we thought), since Venus' listing dropped off PetHarbor (which usually happens immediately once the dog is confirmed pulled and/or leaves the shelter). A transporter (THANKS, TRACY) was dispatched to the shelter to pick up our newest addition, but was told when she arrived that she was NOT AUTHORIZED to pull! What?!

So round and round yet again. Another email was sent to the shelter, authorizing Tracy to pull. When they asked if Venus should stay for spay surgery, we said NO! We just wanted to get her out, and her ride was already there. Finally victorious, Tracy left the building with Venus in tow. According to Tracy, "She’s a sweet, sweet girl! She gives big hugs!

Thanks for getting me outta there

Venus is listed as 8 months old. She is now current on vaccinations and microchipped. She will be spayed prior to adoption and, in fact, has an appointment for the 28th. We're hoping to bring Venus to Arizona within the next 2 weeks.

UPDATE 3/11: After an uneventful ride from California, Venus has arrived in Phoenix.

Unloading in Quartzsite

First order of business was an introduction to Annie, our resident small dog. At first Venus barked at her, but when allowed to go up and sniff her, she immediately lost interest and wanted to be friends.

Venus is a beautiful, coated (long hair) GSD puppy. As with all puppies, she will require ongoing training and socialization and will not be placed into a home where no one is home during the long work week/day. She is spayed, up-to-date on shots, microchipped and ready to begin the next phase of her life with a new home and family.

UPDATE 3/15: We checked Venus in to Doggie District today for some playtime!

Venus was very happy to meet Kelly
