SWEETIE

This little cutie was placed in foster care by a rescue in California. The foster left California and headed to Arizona with her fostered dog and would not return her to the rescue that legally owns her. After several unsuccessful attempts by SWGSDR to put all parties together, it was finally decided that we be given legal ownership so that we could find Sweetie "forever" locally. As soon as we receive her paperwork and get some new photos, she will be evaluated ..please watch for her post eval bio.

SWEETIE

Sweetie is a pretty BiColor GSD a year and half old. She's a Velcro gal that wants and needs to be near her person at all times; possibly even to the extent that she might have some separation anxiety. We did meet her briefly in early March..she was shy but friendly and obviously not well socialized. Since then, per our recommendation, she has been out and about more, building confidence and learning some basics so we'll have another look at her soon and report back.

She is spayed, house broken and chipped. Sweetie has not had much exposure to children or dogs other than the male GSD with whom she is sharing her foster home. We will be testing her with strange dogs. The one thing we do know is that Sweetie will need a stay-at-home Mom or owners who are not away for extended periods of time, will probably do well with a calm large breed male...no small dogs or cats. A new foster home with patience and time would be great. UPDATED BIO & NEW PICS SOON~~~

UPDATE 5/29: Sweetie has made progress since we last saw her; she's more confident and knows "sit", "down" and working on "Stay". She could use more leash work..good on a walk but will pull in the direction of another dog in an effort to get closer to play. No aggression; not an ounce, but just needs to polish her social skills. She is not spooky or skittish yet a little insecure; Sweetie is a "Velcro" gal which means that she wants her person nearby and will follow you everywhere. She was introduced to two high energy, dominant and confident males and was eager to engage them..she just needs to approach with less exuberance which goes back to more socializing and leadership. A group obedience class will serve to hone those skills and is planned for her future.

Sweetie does have some separation anxiety in that she must be crated when left alone and does best in the company of another dog. She becomes too anxious if left loose when no one is home but does OK when crated. She is accustomed to having someone around most of the time thus would do best with a stay-at-home Mom or an active retiree. At the park, when her person is out of sight she will vocalize.

She is still puppy-like..jumps to greet her family..simply a matter of training. She is smaller than she appears in her photos but strong and well muscled.

In a word, Sweetie is, well, SWEET; affectionate, bonds strongly, will offer her belly and you will be the center of her universe. We are still awaiting her shot records from California and will get whatever, if any, vaccinations she needs. She is ready to meet you.

UPDATE: The individual who fostered Sweetie for the rescue in California brought her to her parents home in Arizona where she stayed for a while with Sweetie. She has since left the state to return to school so Sweetie was left in the care of her senior parents; not something they signed on for. Dad is not at all happy about this uninvited house guest so Sweetie doesn't get the time and attention she craves.

She is also living quite a distance from us so access to her has been a challenge. We really need to get Sweetie more socialized and busier and on her way to "forever"....her chances are greatly reduced where she is; Sweetie needs a foster home or foster to adopt right away. She is such a loving creature and so deserving of an opportunity to move forward with her life.

STOP BY & MEET SWEETIE AT SWGSR UPCOMING EVENTS ON SUNDAY, DEC 4th..Times for each dog will be posted after Thanksgiving

UPDATE 12/8: Sweetie spent several hours with us last Sunday and is growing up nicely. She's about two years old now. When her foster Mom left the area after dropping her off, Sweetie, as expected, fussed vocally for about five to ten minutes after which she settled down and behaved perfectly all day. She was friendly, outgoing, and paid no attention to all of the many four legged critters roaming around. She also spent time kissin on several staff members and proved to be a real love bucket....IT'S TIME FOR HER TO HAVE HER VERY OWN, PERMANENT FAMILY..she has so much to give

HEELING WELL FOR DARLENE

AND A BIG WET ONE AFTER HER STROLL

SHOWING OFF HER GERMAN SHEPHERDNESS

SWEETIE WAS A PERFECT SIDE-KICK FOR MARCY ALL DAY

UPDATE MARCH 2012: After updating her shots we took Sweetie from our vet to a friend's home wherein 2 male German Shepherds reside.
The intros went well and everyone was minding their manners. We observed a level of confidence in Sweetie of which we were previously unaware. As with most mature females, she demanded respect for her "space", calmly but firmly, and the boys obliged. (Most females don't like males coming on too strong and invading the space around their head and butt) especially with dogs unfamiliar to them.

All was well until we handed out treats and learned that Sweetie prefers to "save" hers, perhaps for later. Jerry thought that was an invitation or more like a discarded treat and headed right for it. OH NO, not so fast; Sweetie gave him 'what for' and made it very clear that this treat was not up for grabs.
In essence, Sweetie is capable of minor resource guarding and will probably be the matriarch of her family if it includes another dog. Leadership, of course, will teach her that the humans(s) are the ones in charge and she doesn't get much of that in her foster home. So pretty Sweetie is not the "shrinking violet" she was thought to be..she will make a great obedience student.

Sweetie will be joining us on Saturday, April 14th at the Desert Dog K9 Trials.. ....come out and meet her and enjoy the competition

Adoption fee $350.00 includes an approved training class.
