| 12/14:
Sheena is one of the three dogs that was raised with China. This Poor creature sat with the body of her deceased owner for days before police discovered her.
As she witnessed the remains of her owner being taken away, she and her canine roommates were taken right to "jail."
Not too long after her arrival at the county pound, she was separated from her canine friends....what a terrifying week Sheena must have had! She is a GSD mix and an older gal, and, well, you know how we feel about our more mature orphans! Lucky for Lady Sheena, we have found Louise, who quickly altered her plans and advised her holiday house guest they were making room for yet another; Sheena will be pulled from the pound TODAY and headed for her holiday foster home. More to come after her arrival......
We will be learning more about her as the week progresses. Sheena is house trained, spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Sheena reunited at the park with her old roommate China; they seem to be saying "Oh gosh, you're alive! I had no idea what had happened to you!" UPDATE 12/23: This happy-go-lucky gal has been left loose in the house for her foster Mom's entire work shift all week and has been trustworthy left alone since she arrived. No accidents, no damage. She will be visiting our vet after Christmas to have her eyes checked and will also be attending Boot Camp for some socialization around lots of other dogs. Sheena is ready for a home that's FOREVER. UPDATE DEC 29TH: Sheena had a complete eye check today and, thankfully, got a thumbs up; NO Pannus! She was a VERY good girl and let the vet do whatever, including eye drops. She does have a minor ear infection which we are treating. The vet also agreed with our age estimate of seven years. She's a doll. UPDATE 1/30: Sheena has proven to be a lovely and loyal companion. She even did well with a visiting 5 year old for a long weekend. She does need leash work; she pulls and pulls hard and obviously was never walked much. It's an easy fix, however, our busy schedule, her foster Mom's schedule and recent weekend rain-outs have precluded us from being able to work with her to the extent we would like. We're working on getting together soon to address her lack of training. Sheena is a very smart girl and learns quickly. Foster Mom is very fond of Sheena and finds her to be a pretty easy keeper. Unfortunately she has travel plans in March, so we will need to move Sheena to a new foster or foster-to-adopt home. It could just be for two weeks and she can return to her current temporary home if need be. This, however, is a dog very deserving of a more permanent arrangement as she is bonding strongly to her current "Mom." UPDATE 2/26: Sheena's foster Mom has brought her out to the park a few times so that we could work on Sheena's leash manners. We're happy to report that Sheena has made great strides in that department. With an experienced handler she is now a pleasure to walk. Someone with less experience might be tested in that regard but once shown what to do, Sheena will cooperate. She still becomes excited and distracted when she first arrives at one of her favorite spots..does a lot of sniffing and pulling yet settles down nicely. Sheena will also start attending Boot Camp and learning some new obedience skills. She still needs to be moved so that her foster Mom can move forward with her travel plans. She's a very good girl with very good house manners just waiting for someone to impress. UPDATE 5/18: Sheena's foster Mom did some traveling last week and Sheena stayed with Aunt Becki and her boarders. She was a perfect guest, crated without protest at night and kept herself enntertained in the play area when Becki was busy. Becki said she is welcome there anytime the need arises...good girl Sheena! If you have room in your heart and home for Sheena, please let us know. Adoption fee $225.00.
