Mindy was spotted completely by accident at the Moreno Valley Shelter in California. Because she is a larger dog, she was kenneled in the back of the shelter where the pit bulls are kept and did not get any exposure to the public for adoption. She was discovered by accident by Shawna, a small breed rescuer who had gone to the shelter to pull another dog.
UPDATE 7/29: Cindy and Shawna went to visit Mindy at Moreno Valley today. They can't say enough good things about her. She will be pulled from the shelter on Saturday and will spend the week with Cindy until transport to Arizona can be arranged. UPDATE 7/31: A call from Cindy this afternoon let us know that Mindy was safe at her home. She met her pack of dogs (including an airedale, a border collie, a fox terrier, and a St. Bernard) and she was fine with all of them. She even met Cindy's cats and was good with them as well. We have asked Cindy to take pictures when able and to give us updates on Mindy regarding the cats. She may just be that shepherd that likes cats (in general, not for lunch). Cindy will start with leash training and basic obedience tomorrow.

Mindy will be coming to Phoenix on Tuesday, August 17th. She needs a foster upon arrival. If you're interested in fostering Mindy, please fill out the Prospective Adopter's Questionnaire and email Nancy at the email address below. UPDATE 8/17: ![]() ![]() Mindy has arrived in Phoenix! Thanks to Cindy for keeping her safe and for bringing her all the way from California. Upon arrival in Phoenix, we discovered that Mindy is coming into heat, which will postpone her spay surgery a bit (probably some time in September), We're going to be spending the next few weeks getting to know Mindy, so please check back for updates and additional photos of Mindy in her new foster home. Mindy still needs to be spayed, and we will be scheduling that surgery as quickly as possible. She is microchipped and up-to-date on shots.
UPDATE 8/26: Mindy is doing well in her new foster digs. She has learned the routine of the house and now comes and goes with the pack. She is calm and even tempered and even puts up with the house "brat," Mikey who feels it's his job to snarl at her every time they go outside together.
Mindy is finishing out her heat cycle and will be spayed in early to mid-September. A foster-to-adopt home would be ideal for her.
According to Angelina, I think you need to nickname her the social butterfly. All people and creatures she has to say hello to, she even insisted on sitting on one of the park benches to watch the other dogs and people play. And every time I ask her if "she's ready to go" she has to roll over for belly rubs, not quite what I meant. UPDATE 8/29: Mindy ran into the family cat in the livingroom this morning. She was interested and tried to make friends, but Bean (the cat) hissed at her and Mindy headed for her crate in the kitchen. Good girl, Mindy! We'd definitely say that she passed the "kitty test." Adoption fee to be determined.
