HOUSTON IN A NUTSHELL: Nice BIG boy, about 2 years old. Good with other dogs; cats are an unknown as yet. Takes food very nicely from your hand. |
The morning brought a text from our friend Michelle, the Rescue Coordinator at a California shelter. She wanted to know if we took white GSDs that weren't all white. We do, but since we had no room, we initially had to pass on this handsome boy. Michelle sent this video of Houston in his "cell" with a male companion in hopes that we could help him.
About a week later, Michelle contacted us again to say that Houston's "cellmate" had been adopted and that the shelter was so overly full they were having to euthanize for space -- something they rarely need to do. She was hoping beyond hope that we could help Houston as she had really fallen for him. Michelle reported that Houston had come into the shelter as a stray, with a collar and ID tag! Repeated phone calls and voice messages left at the number on the tag went unanswered, and Houston's life was in jeopardy as a result. We had to buy ourselves some time as one of our staff members had just had surgery and was unable to take in any new dogs. A call to Chuck and Jon at Husky Camp provided a solution and we were able to say YES to Houston. UPDATE 5/7: Houston was picked up at the shelter this morning!
Houston will be spending some time at Husky Camp until we can arrange transport for him. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations and microchipped. UPDATE 6/1: Houston has been picked up in California by our wonderful volunteer, Betty, and is on his way to Phoenix! Our thanks go out to Chuck and Jon at Husky Camp for keeping him safe until we had room for him.
Adoption fee $395.00.
