| NEEDS FOSTER ASAP HEIDI IS A VERY SWEET, WELL BEHAVED GAL IN TEMPORARY CARE IN PHOENIX. SHE NEEDS AN IMMEDIATE FOSTER WITH A SECURE YARD AND NO CATS, ANOTHER DOG IS FINE. HER TIME IS RUNNING SHORT...CAN YOU HELP?
|
Heidi was taken by her current owner, a little over two years ago, from a lady in a park with few questions asked. He said that she was an indoor dog, yet she has managed to take leave of his property many times and has even been picked up at large by animal control on, at least, one occasion(yet she never went anywhere when her person was around). She is a high energy and active gal who has not had appropriate outlets through which to channel that energy.
| Here's her evaluator's report: Heidi is an approximately 4 year old spayed female. She is very outgoing, readily walked away from her person to walk with me around the park. There were numerous adults and children in the park. She was very interested in an elderly gentleman sitting on a bench, pulling to get to him. I asked him if I could approach with her. He stated he loved dogs and would like to meet her. She went straight to him and would have climbed up on the bench if I allowed her to do so. Heidi is very exuberant and will jump on people if not controlled.
Heidi will jump a 4-5 foot fence if left alone in a yard and has climbed a chain link fence into the neighbors yard to play with their dog. She does not have high ball drive but will occasionally play with some toys. Her Dad feels she has over the top energy however, it seems to be an unfulfilled activity level very typical of her breed. She is simply in the wrong environment. Heidi is not a large dog, very pretty with beautiful dark pigment. The usual training, socialization and walks are her RX for success. She's a high strung gal who needs to really bond with someone who truly cares for her and is willing to satisfy her thirst for being busy. While she will probably always be a vocal gal, she will be far less so without the frustration of pent up energy. She must have a secure yard and be an indoor member of her family. Heidi has not been exposed to children that we know of, seems to be very dog oriented which is common among backyard dogs..a likely scenario for her first two years. Until she learns more social manners, teenagers only. No cats, completion of an obedience class will be required. She is current with shots, on seasonal Heartworm preventative, housebroken and is said to be crate trained. UPDATE 6/30: Heidi is currently in boarding; a situation not good for the long term, but she is safe. Her only issue seems to be her desire to explore beyond her boundaries. We think this might subside considerably with ample exercise and interaction with her human family; routine and a strong bond make for a compelling reason to stay put. She is very smart and resourceful which is part of her charm but also the reason she has been able to outsmart her previous caretakers. Of course, due diligence on their part and she wouldn't have the opportunity to wander. This is a feminine, active girl who is eager to please. She will train easily and well. She is also very sensible and will cautiously investigate the unknown. Heidi has demonstrated good house manners and, well, just needs what all German Shepherds do; time for them. She cannot stay where she is for very long...she deserves human companionship and a home. Would that be you? UPDATE 7/25: Heidi has been boarded at Camp Johnson since June. She is with an experienced GSD owner but must share her free time with many other dogs. We desperately want a real home setting for this loving gal who so deserves a family of her own. Here's her foster's July 23rd report: Steff: Heidi X doing well... She is perfect in every way...going outside by herself now...doesn't try to leave or bother the fence. Retrieves toys and brings them back to you to re-throw. She eats well, poops well, totally at home in her crate. Good watch dog.....What more could someone ask for???? Becki Adoption fee $275.00.
