HARRY AND SALLY

There had to have been a lucky star shining on Harry and Sally on Thursday evening. Duanne at the westside shelter, rarely gets time to leave her office to wander through the kennels at the shelter. But, for some reason, on Thursday she took the time and came across this pair in one of the kennels. Her first thought was, "Oh, I've got to call White GSD Rescue on these two." She played with them for just a bit and then headed back to her office to look up our contact information.

Upon arriving at her office, Duanne checked her computer, only to find that BOTH dogs (even though they had come in as strays only 3 days before and were obviously purebreds and well taken care of) were on the "E" list for the following morning! They were never even going to make it to the adoption floor.

Thankfully, Duanne was able to reach our staff member with just one phone call and we were able to stay their execution...permanently!

UPDATE 7/16: Thanks to our partner at Southwest for providing transportation in our time of need, we pulled Harry and Sally from the west side shelter this afternoon.

The kids are brought from their kennel to the front office for processing

Happy to be free, once outside the pair decided to go exploring.

Oh, boy...

...we're free!!!!

Let's load up

The kids enjoyed their ride to freedom

For lack of foster space, Harry and Sally were taken to Pat the Dog Lady's until a foster home could be found for them.

Harry's no fool. In 116 degrees, he sticks close to the cooler

Sally is more a water bucket kinda girl

Harry and Sally appear to be between 12 and 15 months of age. It's possible they are brother and sister, or a breeding pair, but they are definitely bonded to one another and it's our guess that they escaped or were dumped from the same household. Sally is either going in or just coming out of heat, so she will be spayed immediately; Harry's neuter will follow as quickly as possible thereafter. Both dogs are friendly and sweet. We were unable to make an assessment of their training level due to the extreme heat.

UPDATE 7/23: We visited Harry & Sally today. They have adjusted beautifully to their current boarding situation and have been having an absolute ball playing and digging in the mud that has resulted from the showers in NW Phoenix over the last few days.

Sally saw our vet for an initial checkup prior to her spay surgery; she weighed in at 62 pounds and was pronounced fit for surgery. The vet guesstimated her age to be about 15 months. Both Harry and Sally seem to have been loved and taken care of during their short lifetimes. Their training (including walking on a leash) is almost non-existent, so training classes will be a requirement of their adoption.

UPDATE 7/27: Harry & Sally were picked up at Pat's and transported to Sherry's for a bath and brush. After getting a much needed cleaning up, the dogs were given the chance to run and stretch their legs at a local park, where they ran into a new friend, Ursula.

Let the games begin!

Happy but tired kids

Catch us if you can

The kids take a break and Ursula steals a kiss from Sally

UPDATE 8/3: Harry had his neuter surgery today and came through with no complications. Both dogs had blood drawn and fecals sent off for testing. Sally will be spayed once the bloodwork comes back (in about 2 days).

Harry (now a conehead) has a small dinner then decides to take a nap
in his food dish -- he's had a busy day

UPDATE 8/5: The bloodwork is in and everything looks clear for Sally's spay surgery on the 9th.

UPDATE 8/9: Sally came through her spay surgery with flying colors. It's going to be up to her foster mom to keep this active little girl down for a few days so she has a chance to heal. Thankfully, brother Harry is spending the weekend is Flagstaff, so Sally will get a few days to herself before big brother returns.

UPDATE 8/25: Harry & Sally are doing well at "The Dog House" with Leah. Sally's sutures have been removed and she's healing nicely and gaining weight. Both kids are healthy and ready to go to their new homes.

Adoption fees: Harry $425.00 / Sally $375.00
