We first heard about Tony from our counterparts at Coastal GSD Rescue in California. This was the only picture they had (at left), but they assured us that he was a very sweet, young white GSD that got along with other dogs. Well, they were mostly right. We found it strange that no one mentioned the black "saddle" on Tony's back; that is, until the transporter arrived at the shelter to pick him up!
A white GSD he isn't, but he's definitely young (probably between 12 and 16 months judging by his clean white teeth and his large puppy feet) and very sweet. He had no problem at the shelter allowing other dogs to come and go around him, and at his temporary foster home he's being very respectful of the senior alpha female and even allowed her to eat his dinner without complaint. After being allowed to settle in for a bit, Tony will be neutered, microchipped and updated on shots (if necessary). We'll allow our vet to give us his "guesstimate" of Tony's age, but I don't think we're too far off. UPDATE 7/14: Tony's neuter surgery has been scheduled for this comjing week. After a brief recovery period, he will be available for introductions and adoption. UPDATE 7/18: Tony came out to Boot Camp today -- thank you, Laura! He was friendly to all the other dogs (females) and definitely wanted to play.
UPDATE 7/22: Tony had his neuter surgery and came through with flying colors. He was also microchipped and updated on shots. After a few days of R&R, Tony will be available for introductions. He'd love a forever family to call his own.
UPDATE 7/26: Tony was moved to a new foster home today. Our thanks to Rick and Garrett who, having experience in training German Shepherds (as evidenced by their beautiful girl "Char") thought that they could help Tony find his forever home by giving him the basics in obedience training and teaching him to live in a real home. Please check back for progress updates on the training. Tony is available for immediate introductions and adoption. First Night Foster Report: Behavior:
Loves toys Tony is still giving his foster sister Char a hard time by trying to mount her -- boys wil be boys -- so Rick and Garrett will be working through that as Tony's hormones continue to work their way out of his body subsequent to his neuter. Tony has also had some diarrhea with the move (but no accidents in the house), but we anticipate that will correct itself shortly once things settle down for him. All in all, a good first foster report. UPDATE 8/3: Foster dad Rick reports that Tony is doing well. He now has the "down" command down solid and is learning what it means to be an indoor dog. All in all, he's doing well. UPDATE 8/14: We had Tony out in the park today for his first introduction, and all we can say is "Yowser!" Thanks to the love and care of his foster dads, Rick and Garrett, he has put on a few much-needed pounds and has turned into quite the handsome young man. He's still a bundle of energy, and is still in training, but he's got a temperament that shines. Do you have the energy to keep up with this lively youngster?
Adoption fee $275.00.
